The Beauty and Nostalgia of Keepsake Dolls
It is a real privilege to be able to buy a new baby girl her first doll, even more so if the mother of the child is a relative or close friend. Keepsake dolls were made for this privilege. Not all dolls are made to be played with, just like Venetian glass is not made to butt out a cigarette.
When I was a little girl, I had a cousin who was a few years older, I loved her, she was like the big sister I never had. She had the most beautiful collection of keepsake dolls for all over the world. Her father was in the Navy and everywhere he traveled he brought back a traditional doll of that country. She was a collector, I am not, but everyone is different.
If you want to buy a first doll for a girlfriends’ baby, provided she had a girl of course. Keepsake dolls are always a good choice; they do have quite a hefty price tag however, but this is besides the point if it is destined for a collection as apposed to being drooled upon and having the arms and legs broken off.
A mother who teaches her child to treasure a doll so that it lasts for ever, teaches her about things that are special. These dolls can be played with, under supervision and the child can be taught to put it back in a safe place when she has given her enough attention.
Playing with dolls teaches both girls and boys many valuable life lessons particularly in the form of role play. A keepsake is precious and it teaches a child special friends and family need to be loved, protected and cherished. This also teaches them how to treat their peers and family with respect.
Accidents happen and dolls get broken, this can be heartbreaking, but again, this teaches some important life lessons. Everyday life acted out in play scenarios, equips a child for their lives ahead, and as little girls think of dolls as their close circle of friends, these lessons count and help to build healthy family foundations.
Giving a doll, whether it is a keepsake or an everyday doll is a special gift for any child. They teach them to care and share as wells as give respect. So if you are thinking of giving a keepsake doll as a gift to a new baby and are thinking it is a frivolous gift. Think again, you might be surprised.
