The Top 10 Best SNES Games of All-Time
Creating a list of the top 10 best SNES games ever is definitely something that will be subjective towards the creator’s personal views. Both the games that make the list and the order of the list can be debated. Here is a list of the top 10 best SNES games ever.
10 – Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting – This game increased the speed and added special techniques to what was already one of the premiere fighting games of the time. Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting restored more balance into the game play of a great game series.
9 – EarthBound – One of the best RPGs of the 1990s, EarthBound was considered one of the most original role-playing games at that time. It was praised for its storyline, humor, music, and characters. The game was criticized for its graphics and depictions of American culture, but overall was considered a success in both Japan and the United States.
8 – Final Fantasy II – Although not as ground breaking in the graphics department, FFII was praised for its content and the game’s length. It added many of the features to the Final Fantasy series that fans would later come to expect from all Final Fantasy games.
7 – Mega Max X – Capcom’s release for the SNES was a critical success. Mega Man X brought a new image to the series and was responsible for over a dozen follow-up and spin off games. It was identical to its predecessor series Mega Man, but added a host of new features to the game.
6 – Chrono Trigger – Both commercially successful and lauded by reviewers, Chrono Trigger has sold millions of copies since its release. It is considered not only as one of the best games for the SNES, but one of the best games on any console of all time.
5 – Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars – This was the first console role-playing game in the Mario series. It is often compared to other RPGs near that time such as Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series. Its success has mirrored the success of both of those games as well.
4 – Super Mario World – The best platform game ever created for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The Super Mario series just happens to also be the most popular platform game series ever created. The game has been released multiple times and multiple platforms and sold millions of copies.
3 – Final Fantasy III – Probably the best game of arguably the best RPG series of all time, Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy III had great 2D graphics, an incredible soundtrack, and was a massive success in both Japan and the United states. The game appealed to both hardcore RPG players and newcomers to the RPGs.
2 – Super Metroid – Although the Metroid series did not originally reach the commercial success that some of its counterparts did, Super Metroid was given near-universal acclaim upon release. It is considered by many to be one of the best, if not the best, 2d action adventure game ever.
1 – The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – One of the best games, in one of the best series, with some of the best characters ever created. A Link to the Past is the ultimate game that defined the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was uniquely Nintendo, yet also very portable to all types of fans. The game has sold millions of copies and won almost every award a game can win.
